- Ensure every child has the best start in life
- Enable people to maximise their potential and have control over their lives
Citizens Advice on Prescription (CAP) has made a huge difference for families in Liverpool. Especially those dealing with poor health and may need extra help. The service helps people in healthcare. They expanded in 2020 to focus on families with babies under 1 year old and pregnant women, particularly those who are struggling to make ends meet.
Each year, CAP helps around 800 to 1,000 families facing big challenges. Most of these families don’t have enough money to make ends meet. Many are dealing with long-term health problems. More children in these families have learning disabilities or autism compared to other kids in the city.
CAP has been especially helpful to families from ethnic minority backgrounds. Over 61% of the families referred from Liverpool Women’s Hospital coming from these groups. CAP focuses on families who need the most help. Offering them connections to important services like local Children’s Centres. This support makes families feel healthier and means they don’t need to rely on medication or use healthcare services.
CAP also helps improve families’ financial stability and wellbeing. It supports mothers in tough situations, helping them find help with jobs and daily needs. Since it started, CAP has supported over 800 families each year, helping them improve their health and reducing pressure on the NHS. The program has been very successful in helping families who are struggling to make ends meet. Its helped people with health problems and loneliness – improving their lives and chances for the future.
